Biography

Liz is a Coordinator at Michigan Tech's Center for Pre-College Outreach. Her outreach focus is on programs to benefit local students: GEAR UP (11th grade college readiness), after-school STEM clubs, and events for local students (including Get WISE and Engineering Olympics). She graduated from Michigan Tech in 2012 with a dual degree in mathematics and social science.

Providing Scholarships for Women to attend Michigan Tech Summer Youth Programs

Scholarships provide opportunities for high-achieving young women in grades 6-11 to experience different areas of STEM at Michigan Tech's Summer Youth Programs.

Mining Engineering Pre-College Camp Scholarships

The week-long Mining Engineering program engages interested 9-11th grade students in the field of mining. Led by faculty, staff, and graduate students from Michigan Tech, participants get hands-on with engineering, explore future careers in extraction and mining, and learn from role models in industry.

Engineering Scholars Program Pre-College Camp Scholarships

ESP is a week-long summer camp for high-achieving young men & women in grades 9-11. Led by faculty, staff, and graduate students from Michigan Tech, participants spend the week exploring future careers in engineering. They learn about multiple engineering fields, complete group projects, and more - creating a more diverse future workforce.

WiCS is a week-long summer camp for high-achieving young women in grades 9-11. Led by faculty, staff, and graduate students from Michigan Tech's Department of Computer Science, participants spend the week exploring a future career in computer science. They learn programming, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and more - creating a more diverse future workforce for a growing industry.

Youth STEM Series: Tivitz Tournament & Math Day 2015

The Center for Pre-College Outreach will co-host a day-long event for 4th-7th grade students. During the event, the participants will compete against one another at Tivitz (a math board game) in a friendly tournament. They will also engage in three math activities covering topics like logic and geometry. The goal is to show off many of math's cool, everyday applications.

Youth STEM Series: Get Women in Science and Engineering 2015

The Center for Pre-College Outreach will co-host a day-long workshop for 7th-8th grade girls. During the event, the girls will engage in three to four science and engineering challenges, meet female role models from Michigan Tech programs, learn physics concepts, and reconnect with their interest in science/engineering. The goal is to inspire more young women to pursue careers in STEM.
