Biography
Working with a team of crazy-smart students, researchers and marine technicians, the staff at the Great Lakes Research Center are helping to advance research, education, and outreach across the Great Lakes and coastal oceans.
Elizabeth's research projects
Researchers at Michigan Tech's Great Lakes Research Center study all things water - what is in it, what lives in it, and what lies beneath.
This cabled observatory gives us an underwater interface that can be used year-round and is allowing us to study under a cover of ice. Our goal is to build a bigger observatory and monitor all of the Great Lakes.

The Michigan Tech campus is positioned within a major migratory route for many bird species and thus many of these birds are at risk of window collisions with campus buildings. This project creates research and creative opportunities for science and art students on the Michigan Tech campus to help birds safely navigate our campus.
The Center for Pre-College Outreach will co-host a day-long workshop for 7th-8th grade girls. During the event, the girls will engage in three to four science and engineering challenges, meet female role models from Michigan Tech programs, learn physics concepts, and reconnect with their interest in science/engineering. The goal is to inspire more young women to pursue careers in STEM.
The Center for Pre-College Outreach will co-host a day-long event for 4th-7th grade students. During the event, the participants will compete against one another at Tivitz (a math board game) in a friendly tournament. They will also engage in three math activities covering topics like logic and geometry. The goal is to show off many of math's cool, everyday applications.
